This privacy policy is meant to give a common-sense explanation of our privacy practices. Questions or comments about the policy are welcomed.
Idiom Press' web site, www.idiompress.com, uses cookies. A cookie is a small amount of data, which often includes an anonymous unique identifier, that is sent to your browser from a web site's computers and stored on your computer's hard drive. Each web site can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser's preferences allow it, but to protect your privacy your browser only permits a web site to access the cookies the site has already sent to you, not the cookies sent to you by other sites. You can configure your browser to reject some or all cookies if you like; see your browser's online help for more information. However if you do prevent your browser from storing cookies, the shopping cart feature of the site may not work. (Of course there are other ways of placing an order with Idiom Press.)
Our web site also creates cookies for www6.qth.com; the reason for this is that www.idiompress.com is an alias for www6.qth.com/~idiompre/ , and parts of the shopping cart are hosted on www6.qth.com/~idiompre/ , so any cookies for the shopping cart must be cookies for www6.qth.com. Both idiompress.com and www6.qth.com are aliases for the same computer.
Other than aliases for the same computer hosting www.idiompress.com as described above, we do not send any third-party cookies to your computer.
Idiom Press uses cookies for two purposes: first, to keep track of items placed in the virtual "shopping cart". Second, to track the conversion percentage of our online advertisements. (The conversion percentage is the percentage of online visitors, who arrived after clicking on one of our ads, that make purchases.)
The statistical data collected using cookies, i.e. the ad conversion percentage data, does not include any personally identifiable information.
Data from the web server logs is also collected. This data is only used for statistical purposes, such as to determine what are the most popular search terms typed into search engines that led users to the site. Personally identifiable data is not derived from the web server log data.
Idiom Press' web site does collect personally identifiable information from people who make purchases using the web site. The information is shared with third parties in order to process credit cards and ship orders. The information is also used to verify Idiom Press' compliance with royalty agreements. The other parties in the royalty agreements have agreed to keep the personally identifiable information only as long as necessary, not longer than three months, and to not share the personally identifiable information with anyone else.
When a customer places an order, the customer can optionally give his or her amateur radio call sign. This call sign is only used as a convenience to identify the customer for future purchases and for customer service requests.
Idiom Press will never share customers' personally identifiable information with anyone else for marketing purposes. If Idiom Press should ever be sold, a condition of the sale will be that the buyer must also agree to never allow customers' personally identifiable information to be shared with anyone else for marketing purposes.
Personally identifiable information collected from people who make purchases using the web site is stored in an offline database. Any customer may request to have a copy of his or her data on file emailed to him or her. (In order to protect the customer's privacy, we will require that the customer prove his or her identity.) A customer may also request to have part or all of his or her customer record in the database deleted; however, the customer's data that is associated with any orders already placed will be retained as part of the order record or records.
